These are my personal comments (not antigonistic commentaries):
"According to New York Times, the document would declare that gay men are unfit for orders and should not be permitted to enter seminary."
Shouldn't ALL people be afforded an equal right to establish their faith based in the strongest possible educational institutions? It makes little sense to me that anyone should be banned from seminary, at the very least. I've struggled with this prejudice in terms of gender rights in the Catholic Church. Although I neither agree nor disagree with the Church's decision not to allow female priests (based on Papal interpretation of the New Testament), I do not think that exclusion from spiritual education can be justified in any way.
"According to New York Times, the document would declare that gay men are unfit for orders and should not be permitted to enter seminary."
Assuming homosexuality is considered a sin in the Catholic Church, are we not all sinners? In which case, should we not all be exempt from seminary?
"In practice, the American church has been receptive to chaste, gay seminarians."
It is my understanding that all priests in the Catholic Church are to live a chaste life... regardless of sexual orientation.
I grew up in Dubuque, moved away for college and never really expected to come back. Felt like I needed to assert my independence. I changed my mind five years ago when my father became ill. Looking back, I think it was one of the smarter things I've done. Today I work at a small university helping teachers use technology in the classroom (and answer questions like, "how do I turn this thing ON?" :-). I'm also an advisor for the campus movie club. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, photography, writing reviews on Yelp.com, and playing any sport involving a racquet!
Before I moved back to Dubuque, I lived in Kansas City for five years, working as a writer for a small company that organizes art exhibits. I love art - especially modern art - and I have a master's degree in art history. My other passion is spending time outside, hiking, biking, rollerblading, etc. Last summer I spent a week in Glacier National Park with my family. It was amazing.
